Creative Writing AFA

Anoka-Ramsey's two-year Creative Writing AFA program offers real opportunities to build your future as a writer. You’ll graduate with the knowledge and tools to step into a professional writing career. Supported by a unique capstone course, you’ll have a polished portfolio and resume showcasing your skills for a variety of career paths or transfer seamlessly to a four-year creative writing or English degree program.

Beyond the classroom, you’ll have access to engage and collaborate with students across the entire campus community who share your creative passion. Students participate in the Creative Writing Club, publish in our student‑edited literary magazine, and attend the Two Rivers Reading Series, Minnesota Writers Series, and Careers in Writing Speaker Series. We are also a member of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP).

Learn in small classes taught by award‑winning, published writers. You’ll grow through hands‑on courses, peer feedback and mentorship from faculty who are active in the regional and national literary community.

Creative writing program courses are offered online and on campus, so you have the option to earn your degree in the way that fits your life. You’ll get a university-level experience at a fraction of the cost.
